In a heartwarming story released by Good Morning America (1), Morgan's Wonderland and 25 acre theme park for special needs children is set to open this Saturday in San Antonio, TX.
The theme park, which was built and named after the owners daughter, Morgan Hartman, was an idea that founded by Gordon Hartman, Morgan's father. Mr. Hartman came up with the idea when he watch his daughter at a swimming pool and seen that she desperately wanted to join the other children who were swimming. According to the story, Mr. Hartman's daughter has a cognitive delay disorder.
That's when Mr. Hartman took action. According to an interview conducted by the New York Times (2), Mr. Hartman turned to a forum of his peers and asked what they thought of a theme park for special needs children. All his peers supported him in his project and after Mr. Hartman put in a million dollars of own money, he was able raise an additional $31.5 million.
The park has 25 attractions, including but not limited to, wheel chair accessible rides, a wheel chair accessible sand box, a water play area, and a music garden. The park also provides a special braclet that has chip in it that can locate a child in case the child wanders off. The price of admission is free for special needs children and $5 for care givers and family memebers.
This in my opinion is one of the greatest parks to be built. I believe that all children should have the opportunity to be able to experience the same joys and just plain fun as any other child.
My most heart felt wishes goes out to Mr. Hartman for building such a wonderful park.

Wow what a heartwarming blog. It's great to read about a father loving his daughter so much that he does something like this. It's wonderful to learn that there is a place for these kids to just be kids, which is so important. Thanks for this blog post!
