In Foxboro, Massachusetts, an eighth grade girl has been hospitalized for emotional distress after months of bullying by her peers at school. This according to a story released by Myfoxboston.com (2).
The latest incident to push the young girl over the edge was during her birthday party when the victim received a phone call calling her a "whore." The mother of the victim has now gotten the police involved and charges for harrassment are now pending aganst the one's who are responsible for the bullying.
Bullying according to Princeton.edu, is the act of intimidating a weaker person to something (1). This poor girl was bullied by public taunts and public humiliation. Now this child is in the hospital suffering from emotional distress.
My heart goes out to this child. This child should be experiencing nothing but joy and happiness at this point in her life. She shouldn't have to put up with stuff from her peers. I hope that these offenders get everything that is coming to them. I also feel that the school should somewhat be liable to since many of the acts of harassment occured at the school. The school did state that they are currently revising their policy on bullying at the school.
My question is, what would've happened if the girl would have committed suicide?

The story of this little girl kind of reminds me of my own. I was bullied a lot at that age. But then one day I decided enough is enough and stood up to those kids and they backed down.
